Tell me more about Webclectics!
Webclectics is a small business dedicated to helping other small businesses, non-profits, and just plain people have their own affordable websites. It was started in 2011 by Bruce Goodman, a computer-programmer with over 38 years of experience in programming, starting in High School in 1982 on a PDP-11, Commodore 64 (my partner and I at the time created the only Bulletin Board System for the C=64), then on to Commodore Amiga 1000, 2000, and 3000T, and finally to Windows machines when Commodore imploded. Bruce’s professional career includes programming on major financial institutions using Cobol, and in 2011, branched out into the brave new world of HTML, CSS, and PHP(a web-specific language).
Joanne Goodman, Bruce’s wife and partner, provides insight on customer relations, and has a great eye for layout and graphics. For those skills we may not be strong on, we leverage talent across the US.
Why should you use Webclectics?
We are a small business, much like many of our clients. We can offer you personalized service at an affordable price. We don’t have thousands of clients, but we hope to have you.
What do I mean about specialized service?
Bruce has 38 years of programming experience, so creating webpages that do special things is pretty easy for him. Have a need for sophisticated form processing? Or maybe need to store some customer information on a database so you can email them? Need to generate some dynamic content (or in other words, build a webpage tailored to the person viewing it)? Its all do-able.
What do we use to create your sites?
We use the tools that best fit the end result. If we need to hand-code HTML, CSS, and PHP code, we can do that. Or we might choose to use a platform such as WordPress to help develop your site. WordPress has thousands of options for developing a site, which makes it very powerful. However, it can make using WordPress a daunting learning curve. Our goal is to provide you with the right tools, and then help and support you from start to site-release, and afterwards.
Wait, isn’t WordPress just like weebly and other free sites?
You can get free sites from many places. And they are worth exactly what you are paying for. We admit it, if all you’re looking for is a simple site, then weebly or the freebie providers might work for you. However, if you are looking for a professional-looking site, with professional functionality, and professional maintenance and stability, then Webclectics is your answer.
Who else is ‘webclectics’?
Bruce’s wife Joanne is his proofreader and chief-layout-commenter. She has great instincts for keeping things readable and visually appealing. Let’s face it, Bruce is a programmer, his brain is stuck in logic-land. It takes someone else to use the right side of the brain to make sure things look cool.
